Update - Phil Angus

You will all be as relieved and delighted as I am to find out that Phil Angus has successfully come through a major operation to remove a benign brain tumour that was apparently the 'size of a small peach' (trust Phil to go for something spectacular!).  Phil was discharged from hospital today and is now back home with Sarah starting 2 months sick leave.  Sarah told me that Phil is doing really well and is in good spirits and will be delighted to hear from friends and colleagues to help him while away the next few weeks!! Shocked to read this news but really pleased that Phil is recovering well. At least his Tommy Cooper fez can now be put to good use covering the scar - "just like that - he he he"!! All the best to you Phil from both myself and Francesca.

As this is now on the Public Forum... I hope that Phil and Sarah will be able to read all these good wishes.
I would also like to add my own wishes for a speedy recovery to full health and many, many years of happiness ahead.

I have spoken with Phil just a few days ago and although tired he is making good progress. He knows that it will take him quite a time to fully recover and he is most grateful for all the messages of support.

Hi Phil

You probably don't remember me but we served together in Bentley in the late 80s. All the best for a speedy recovery and 'keep cheerful'.

Phil, Maggie and I wish you a speedy recovery and a long and very, happy, happy future. You were always the cheerful, happy individual during our joint tour at West Drayton.  How did we survive that???  All our love and best wishes to  you and Sarah, Plez and Maggie

A great mentor, tremendous character and outstanding role model for the Branch.  Many happy memories of Happy Hours at West Drayton and ATC baiting in general.
I hope you make a full, and speedy, recovery Phil.  God Bless.  Smiley

Had an e-mail from Phil earlier today - he asked me to pass on his sincere thanks for all the messages of support he has received from fighter control colleagues (yes, that means you!) - they have really cheered him up!!

Hey Phil

What's this I hear about you having your sense of humour removed and ending up with a brain the size of a small peach ... or something like that.    Actually, I think that puts you in profit on the deal ...  Wink

I hope my e-mail address got forwarded on to you and that you'll drop me a dit when you're feeling up to it.  No rush ... on my desk by Friday, OK?  Grin

Get well soon, chap!  Smiley

Our best to you and Sarah,

Mike & Lynn

Hi Phil

I am very pleased to hear you are on the mend. I think when any of us hears the name Phangus it always puts a smile on our faces for very many reasons. For me it always makes me chuckle when i hear your name - thinking back to your little tricks and jokes that the rest of us  used to suffer under training Smiley!! Take care and recover quickly. Angie xx.

Every good wish Phil for a speedy and full recovery.  In my dotage I am increasingly concerned at the number of our colleagues who suffer or have died from cerebral problems.  Is it an occupational hazard?  Maybe one of the younger element might get somebody to look into this.
Get well Phil

Hi Phil,
really, really sorry to hear that you have been so ill - the words 'Phangus' and 'ill' just don't seem to go together.  Delighted to hear that you have beaten it though and wishing you a speedy recovery.  Make the most of being a patient Phil and no doubt, when you are feeling better, there will be plenty of new jokes to keep the rest of us laughing.  Much Love to you and Sarah, Aileen   Kiss

Sarah has decided as a way of thanking the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery for their fantastic and incomparable care of Phil during his 2-week stay, that she would run the London half-marathon (Run to the Beat) on 26th September to raise money for the National Hospital Development Fund (Registered Charity 290173).  If you'd like to show your support for Sarah and also your appreciation for the care that Phil received, please feel free to make out a (huge!) cheque payable to the National Hospital Development Fund and send it to Sarah's home address and she will ensure every single penny will go direct to the Fund.   Smiley

Although it has been quite some time that we saw each other I will always remember Phil as my great teacher and checker!! I am glad that he seems to recover well - I did not expect anything else. Real good news.
Sarah, all the best for your marathon. These distances I can only manage with a reliable German car.

Hi Phil,

It is great to hear that you appear to be on the road to recovery.  It is times like this that the fondest memories come flooding back.  OK! there's a hold on swimming in the Officers Mess garden pool at West Drayton but at least you did my Orderly Officers! - what a laugh!  You can see from the motley bunch that have sent you their regards we are all rooting for you, take care and best wishes.  Sarah can you get your home address to me I would like to contribute to your run.  Cheers

To All Phil's and Sarah's Friends (and there are lots and lots of you out there, it appears!)

Nicky has already told you (in post #16) about the run that Sarah will be undertaking in September, in an effort to raise money for the National Hospital Development Foundation (Registered Charity 290173), but not all of you will have her current address - and I'm not about to put it on here - so you might find it somewhat difficult to send that cheque you've already written out!!! If that is a picture you recognise, please click on the link above (or here), which leads to the Foundation's JustGiving page, where you can make a donation - using credit or debit cards, PayPal or - if you really want to send a cheque - there is information on this page that will expand on the way you may do so, including completing a downloadable Gift Aid form.

Best wishes

Jan

Best wishes from one of your many ex-studes. We are all scarred by our contact with you (positively of course!)

Hi Phil,

It was quite a shock to hear of your ill health but it's great to know that you are on the mend.  Taking Taff Curtis's earlier point about a "motley bunch" that's not really surprising because you have always been great at bringing people together and cheering us up.  And breathing FCA life into Andy Knill too, a great accomplishment.  Just wanted to send best wishes for continued recovery from another one of the old GE corridor crew (and several other places too).  Seriously though, remember to keep your hat on in the winter and keep your head warm!

Slaan - ge!

Hi Phil

We were so sorry to hear of your recent health problem but we are extremely encouraged to learn of the progress that you are making.

Jaqui and I will not make any cheap side swipes about your brain, although we could do and you would probably expect them.  Instead we send you all our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.  Please give our love to Sarah and know that we are thinking about you both.

Love

Jaqui and Martyn

I regret the lack of edit facilities prevents me from backtracking to remove the unapproved levity from my earlier post.  Sad

I apologise sincerely to Phil and Sarah for mistakenly assuming that a little bit of FC Branch banter might raise a smile to brighten Phil's road to recovery.    Embarrassed

I'm off to the Naughty Corner now to re-calibrate my banter sights for whites-of-the-eyes engagements only.  Lips Sealed

Board admins may wish to revoke my Smilicon privileges as a punishment.

I understand that Phil is now well enough to return to work which is fantastic news.  He has also asked me to pass on his thanks to all current and ex-FCs who have sent him their best wishes via the FCA website - it has meant a lot to him.  Smiley
