Gordon,

I remember it well (from a little later but then it hadn't changed). Thanks for the post.

Just looking at it again makes me shiver!  Can't quite make out the standing fight outside The Buchan Ness with Walter wielding his pickaxe handle.  Obviously taken just before Sam and Cred Small got there as you can't see the well-worn path across the grass between the Officers' Mess front door and their prefab quarter!

Yep, that's the little pixie!  He's probably smiling at the state of the surrounding hungover Pilot Officers that he left for dead in the bar last night!  Anybody know of Sam's current whereabouts?  I last heard of him at Hethersett, Norfolk, but that was many years ago.....

Having been informed of my Posting to Buchan November '65 Not one person in the general Office knew where it was except an 'Old Sweat' with rows of Medals who thought it was one of these secret places where everyone LIVED underground.
Eventually 11 hours after leaving Lincolnshire, three train journeys and One Long Bus ride I arrived at stirling Village on a dence foggy night.
The 'Boddam Cow'  sounded her welcome and I wondered just where the Hell  I was!
I eventually settled down and married and our first married accomodation was in the village of Cruden Bay. Our cottage features in this picture overlooking the sweeping bay which we rented for the princely sum of £5 per week!

I enjoyed being on the frontline in the late 70s and early 80s very much. It was doing a real job with the attendant job satisfaction. I've attached a painting from a photograph I took while walking around Boddam Village prior to the final Mess Dinner a few years ago. It's an oil on canvas board and measures 15" x 12" approx, plus the frame of about 1" width. It has not been on public display but many of my other paintings have. If anyone would like it I will sell to the highest bidder, reserve £40, all proceeds to the Benevolent Fund. It is, after all, a genuine Lowry (DH not LS) and is signed. One day it could be valuable !!!!

My goodness, there is someone out there! i was beginning to think no one else had any memories at all.
Congratulations Dave I appreciate your work do you have any other pieces you may wish to share?
I agree that the Ops at Buchan were at times very stimulating unlike perhaps the southern MRS's Wink
